Nightingale Initiative for Local & Global Health Meeting
with Jenn Knepper, RN
Film: 'A Place at the Table: One Nation. Underfed' & Discussion
As part of our un-folding mission to reach out to our community, Jenn Knepper, RN, is stepping up as the Facilitator of Lancaster AHNA’s new ‘Nightingale Initiative for Local and Global Health’ Group –making connections to build a healthier world.
Just as, in her time, Florence Nightingale was very active in and had a deep commitment to Public Health & Policy, so does Jenn Knepper.
Besides teaching Health Policy to RN to BSN students at Eastern Mennonite University, for the past 14 years Jenn has been a MICU and Critical Care Float Nurse at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Since 2008, Jenn has also been involved with the planning of “Gifts that Give Hope,” an alternative gift fair that sells ‘fair trade gifts,’ and has been a community partner of ‘Bead for Life,’ selling handmade beads and shea butter products. The funds raised through these efforts go toward eradicating extreme poverty through the creation of business and entrepreneurship training for women in Uganda. Additionally, while raising her young family of three, for six years, prior to the birth of her 3rd son, Jenn volunteered as an RN at Water Street Health Services, helping to provide health care to local homeless and low-income residents.
We are thrilled to have Jenn join our chapter as the developer and Facilitator of this important group! Please join us and Jenn at her first educational meeting on October 25 at Sage Continuing Education Center for the showing of the film, “A Place at the Table: One Nation. Underfed.” Following the film there will be a discussion and exploration of hunger here in Lancaster County.
We will also hear from Power Packs’ Director, Kim McDevitt about food insecurity and the work of ‘Hunger Free Lancaster County.’ Power Packs provides weekend food and nutritional information to families who are food insecure when the school's lunch program is not available to them.
