Holistic nursing starts with the care of self. How can we take care of our patients, clients, their families and our community at large if we are too tired, sick or overwhelmed? I believe that holistic nursing is not just a role or a job that we do; it is a lifestyle that is the duty of each and every nurse. When we care for ourselves we are more clear, confident and capable of caring for others. This also means caring for our environments, finances, and relationships. As a holistic nurse who believes in living as a role-model for what health should look and feel like, I lead by example. Instead of merely speaking to these topics, I share my energy and enthusiasm through story and example using a plethora of avenues. I am comfortable and confident on film, in writing and on telephone/radio. Bringing holistic nursing to the public starts within. When we nurture ourselves, we can be that example we want to see in the healthcare arena. As a member of this board, I would be honored to be part of the solution and shift our ever-changing healthcare environment.
