Course Overview - The Foundations of Holistic Nursing, 5th edition home study course is designed for nurses interested in gaining a holistic perspective in nursing practice and daily living. Using the book, Holistic Nursing: A Handbook for Practice, 5th edition (not included), as a text, the 16-session course explores the art of holistic nursing through theory, research, clinical practice, and personal experience. By successfully completing this comprehensive home-study course, participants earn 65 contact hours.

Course format - Designed as a paper/pencil course you can take with you wherever you go; the home study course was developed around the five (5) core values of holistic nursing. The course arranges the book’s 36 chapters into 16 sessions to assist the learner in staying organized for the most fulfilling learning journey. Participants have nine (9) months to complete the course.
NOTE: The text book is not included or sold by AHNA and must be purchased separately through the publisher or your preferred book vendor.

Upon prepayment, learners are mailed a course booklet, called the Exploration Guide, that offers a well-organized path through the course and text and includes:
- chapter reading assignments with core value references
- a goal setting outline & time recording log
- invitations for exploration, movement & reflection

- 130 multiple choice question post test
- A personal journal to reflect on your learning experiences

Upon completion, participants mail in their post test answer sheet, time log and evaluation packet. AHNA Staff scores the exam and notifies learners with results.

Steps to successful completion of the Foundations of Holistic Nursing course:
Order the text book Holistic Nursing: A Handbook for Practice, 5th Ed. The book must be purchased separately; it is not included in the course price.
Complete the home-study program within nine months of receiving it.
Send in your completed home study materials to the AHNA (includes home-study log, program evaluation, and posttest answer sheet).
The AHNA education staff grades posttests and notifies learners of successful completion within 6 weeks of receipt of completed materials. Learners earn 65 contact hours after successful completion of the posttest (passing score of 70%).
(The posttest may be taken twice without reapplication or further fees. The second post-test must be completed within one month of notification of test results.)
Prepayment of $199 is required for members of the AHNA; prepayment of $349 is required for non-members. This cost does not include purchase price of the textbooks. Become a member today!
